4.5 stars. Excellent YA novel. Read like a combination of "It's Kind of a Funny Story" and "We Were Liars". Have not read "The Perks of Being a Wallflower", but I've heard this compared to that also. Teens at a boarding school for "intelligent and emotionally fragile" kids, who wind up in a special English class with four other students and a slightly eccentric teacher who immerses them in the work of Sylvia Plath for a semester. Without spoiling anything, I will just say that there are some magical elements to the story, and that each student has their own particular sad history they need to come to terms with and move beyond, and the class, the relationships they form with each other, and some otherworldly phenomena help them to do this. Love song to the role the arts, and particularly literature can play to young people at critical moments of their lives. Really enjoyed this, and would recommend it.
