The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake

3.0

I’ll stretch for a 3.5 here but only because we got pretty good there towards the end. This was addicting, but I honestly cant be sure why.

If I look closely enough the characters are not likeable , intriguing yes, but I dont actually like any of them. I had no one to root for. No one that I crave to see come out on top or unscathed. But they are fun to read, because they are all elitist hot messes. Its like watching all of the terrible things you wish you had the balls to be in real life come out on the page. So that was fun. But I was 2/3 through and I felt like nothing had happened.

The people and the writing are pretentious and sometimes hard to follow . Because we’re dealing in academia she tends to use big words for no reason other than to make the characters out to be excessively smart.

Overall though I kept turning the pages hoping something would happen. The reality is, we are given 6 POVs, none of which we have throroughly established storylines, that have been offered the opportunity to be in a secret society, so secret in fact that we know nothing about it other than that it holds the worlds knowledge and is ….SECRET. We dont know why we care, we are just supposed to. They study and research for a whole year and literally other than that - NOTHING HAS HAPPENED. Im annoyed because I want to love this and I dont. I will say though once something finally DID happen we were able to get to what looks like a fun ride for the next book.

I will for sure be reading the 2nd book, because everyone deserves a 2nd chance and now I have some idea of where the story is going. Here’s hoping this isn’t a “shame on me situation”.
