The Great Hunt by Robert Jordan

3.0

It's the kind of book I enjoy reading just a chapter or two at a time and ruminating on for a few days between readings. It makes it take forever, but it's a really enjoyable way to live with the character and plots for a while.

Knocked it a star for what I thought was a rushed ending scene. Jordan seems to like that though -- tedious building followed by SLAM crazy-fast IMPORTANT scenes one right after another.

On the second read (a decade later), I didn’t read this review before reading. But I left with the same impression. What a rushed and messy ending. Mat called in the heroes of ages just because two groups of people were about to fight each other and they were between them? They could have just had the AES Sedai cloak them and slipped away. And what, how, and why was Baalzeman there? It made no sense. And the resolution of the action made less. How did Rand get in a garden? When did his sword melt? I can deduce it, but I’d rather be shown. I kept thinking it would be better if Sanderson wrote it… and hot damn if I won’t get my wish soon
