The Winner's Kiss
by Marie Rutkoski
I found the beginning of this book very interesting, but as soon as the two main characters were reunited it lost all of its' intrigue. The characters achieved everything way too easily and all of the high stakes were just abandoned for soppiness. Arin is a simp and it made It insufferable to read from his point of view. Maybe some people like that kind of romance but I couldn't stand how the only thought in his head was how in love he was with her and how he'd die/kill for her. Seriously it sounded like we were reading the point of view of a well trained dog who couldn't wait for his owner to come home. Which made things super uncomfortable considering she technically used to be.. his owner. Anyway, it just didn't feel well fleshed out, the end of the war was not at all climactic and they didn't address how they were going to reorganise the government now that the emperor was killed. If the prince decided to fake his death and run away then who's to stop anyone else from just taking the throne who has absolutely no empathy for their cause and just start the war again in a few years... As nice as it is to say happily ever after it just feels lame to end the series that way.
