I knew going in not to expect Walt Disney's Mary Poppins. What I did not realize, however, was how vain, haughty, and mean was P.L. Travers' Mary Poppins! I was not bothered by the lack of narrative. There is no character development whatsoever but that did not bother me either. The book is set up so that each chapter is a different adventure, and those adventures were magical, until they turned bizarre, and not in a good way. This is a case of the movie was way better than the book.

Saving grace - Rachel Thompson was an amazing narrator. She made the book come alive.
