Dad on Pills: Fatherhood and Mental Illness by Chris Gethard

5.0

Rife with sage advice and tempered assurances, Gethard has given us a great gift with his little book. A true gem for anyone tasked with chronic mental illness and an uncertain and/or frightening future, grappling with the particular challenge of questioning whether or not it's really 'fair' to bring littles into the world, knowing that the odds might be stacked against them. Wonderful, charming, I laughed, I cried. Great read.

Essential:

"Three hopes about parenting. Three fears about parenting. We were allowed to go in any order. I started with a fear. I hadn't thought too hard about it. I just blurted it out. 'I'm scared our son will be like me.' I said it. I meant it. I felt myself crying."
