Before picking up The Song of Achilles, I heard such good things about it, and was almost reluctant to read it thinking the hype was a bit much. However, it proved to be absolutely beautiful.

The writing in this novel was terrific. The relationship between our main characters and the way their bond causes them to interact with their environments and the events that affect them is very captivating. So many passages stuck out to me that were breathtakingly vivid and intensified the immersion. It is as much an epic as it is coming-of-age.

For anyone who might be reluctant to pick this up or intimidated by the Greek mythology - don't worry. Our author is such a talented writer and seamlessly introduces and explains the different characters in this story so that anyone can follow along. My copy also had a glossary in the back that gave background on the different characters mentioned.
