Made You Up by Francesca Zappia

4.0

What a weird book. It didn't suck me in right away -- I actually think that I might have DNFed if I hadn't read her other book and loved it -- but over time I came to really love the characters and the plot became intriguing. In general I don't love unreliable narrators, but here I actually guessed which character was "made up" pretty early on, though the circumstances where that's revealed are heartbreaking. Also, I loved the romance -- Zappia is so great at creating these deeply messed up love interests that mesh so well with her deeply flawed protagonists. (To note, I have no insight into whether or not this mental illness was properly represented.) In conclusion: I liked this story very much and would very much like more YA from Zappia, please.
