4.5

Choctaw storyteller Tim Tingle handles fear, cruelty, and death openly and bluntly, but also gives readers lovable characters and a gentle sense of humor. A benefit of this being an #ownvoices novel: Tingle avoids defining the Choctaw Nation by their trauma, and keeps the focus on their resolve and determination to survive, their traditions and spirituality, and the strength of their community. The pace is fast! I read this in one sitting.
