Celaena has been imprisoned in Endovier for a year when she is approached by the Crown Prince and the Captain of the King’s Guard to compete  to become the King’s Champion. If Celaena wins she will get what she has always wanted, her freedom. Only challenge is that once she is back in Rifthold things begin to get complicated. Not only must Celaena watch herself around the others who are competing but now someone or something is eliminating champions outside of the tasks. Will Celaena be able to make it through and win?

I absolutely adored this book. I could not put it down, in fact I spent my entire snow day reading the book in basically one sitting. The pace was medium to fast and the chapters varied in length. I found myself enthralled from the first chapter and constantly wanting to know what was going to happen next. While primarily a fantasy book, there was some mystery thrown in and some romance. I will say that I was expecting a little more romance after reading ACOTAR but I liked that the first book really focused on building this world and discussing what happened to magic and the other magical creatures.

I enjoyed Celaena in The Assassin’s Blade, I adored her in this book. She was strong and determined and knew what was right for her. It was incredible to read more about her early past and to see how she was not allowing situations to affect how she was or the joy she was able to get from other parts of her life. I was so excited for her to have others that really cared about her and have them show that caring in a healthier way.

I have never read this series but I have seen that apparently there is some dislike towards Chaol, I do not totally understand this. I really loved his character, in fact I liked his character more than the prince, Dorian. While there was incredible banter between Celaena and Dorian, which is always one of my favorite things, I found myself pretty consistently hoping for her to choose Chaol.

I can honestly say that I thought there could not be a character worse than Arobynn but I think the King is worse! I'm really enjoying how terrible the villains are in this series so far. It’s not just the bad things that they can do but rather the additional thought and planning to make things worse for those around that is pretty impressive. I am hopeful that terrible things will happen to the villains in future books. I am curious to see what the next books hold for me! I am so annoyed that I am currently having to wait for books 2 and 3 to come in at my library because I want to start them right now. I want to know if what I think is the outcome in certain situations is correct or if I am totally off base 😆.

Have you read Throne of Glass? What did you think?
