A Death at the Party
by Amy Stuart
The night that Nadine is throwing a birthday party for her mother, she finds herself in the basement, standing over a dead body. Rewinding back to the morning off, readers follow Nadine as she goes throughout her day, planning for the party and learning things about her family that she didn't know along the way. But Nadine also has her own secrets, and so does her mother.
One of the things I liked about this book was how it was told completely in a day. I found the narrative to be very well-executed and it kept me wanting to flip the pages to figure out what was going on at the beginning of the novel. There's a bunch of secrets that are revealed and I enjoyed finding them out along with Nadine.
I wouldn't really categorize this book as a thriller, but it's more of a domestic drama. The pacing is pretty slow, and at times I felt like I was just watching Nadine do. bunch of mundane tasks, and I think the short chapters helped a lot in terms of whether or not I wanted to keep reading. The plot did end up getting twistier near the end, and it made for a really good last couple of pages!
