A Beautiful Wedding
by Jamie McGuire
This was amusing, but nothing to write home about. Beautiful Disaster has a special place in my heart for being the first New Adult book I've ever read--and basically starting the genre. It's cheesy and unrealistic as hell, but I love it anyway.
This novella was trying to be a continuation of that, but it didn't have the lead up and tension that makes you fall in love with Beautiful Disaster. And I think I speak for most people when I say, IT IS ALL ABOUT THE LEAD UP. I read romances to watch characters fall in love. This novella was just two characters that were already in love getting married, and it was a little bit of a snooze.
Also, I hate the trope of New Adult romances when they end like Shakespeare Comedies: with a marriage. College students don't need to get married once they fall in love--especially not if they've only known each other for nine months, like in this series. That was always one of the few things I didn't like at all about Beautiful Disaster. Come on authors, let's end our books realistically.
I did still enjoy this, but I'm glad I read it so many years after Beautiful Disaster because it let me dive into those characters again, if only for a moment.
