I started reading Department Q books after the first movie robbed me of 3 nights of good sleep, because I'm a sucker for a high heartrate apparently.

This is the first book I actually own. It's a tough book filled with tough subjects, which are, especially as a woman, not easy to swallow. It's not hard for most women to imagine scenarios like this, of men abusing their power.

And while the writing was clunky, even bad here and there, the story kept me interested. It was tense and I wanted to know how it ended.

Finding out Nete died in '87 and G.C. got to use her money and her home for the rest of those 30 years was heartbreaking. She didn't deserve that. But having G.C. and C.W. kill each other was a pretty karmic end to it all.

This book is also a warning. This world is filled with men like Curt Wad. Who think their own dick and skin colour make them better than people who have different parts and skin colours. Men like that canNOT be allowed to go unchallenged. Not for nothing were comparisons made to Hitler. If we turn away now in the name of tolerance and free speech, are we not in some part responsible for whatever happens next?

Yeah, this book does not make you happy. But it's thrilling and exciting.

The only other note besides the writing was the absolute onslaught of B-plots that were involved. Mona, Hardy, the Nailgun Case...it was confusing and none of them really seemed wrapped up at the end. Maybe I need to read all the books in order for it all to make sense.
