Darke by Angie Sage
4.0
It's Septimus Heap and princess Jenna's 14th birthdays. Their mother Sarah has a huge party planned and everyone is looking forward to it. Jenna is concerned about something living in the attic above her room and wants Septimus to take a look. He has his mind on other things and refuses, with dire consequences. It is Merrin Meredith, the evil DomDaniel's previous apprentice, who has created a Darke Domaine in the attic and this will soon spread over the whole town. Merrin has the two-faced ring and as he has worn it for 13 mooons he is just coming into his powers, something ExtraOrdinary wizard Marcia realizes just a little too late. Soon the whole town is enveloped in the smoky clouds of the Darke and the shield around the wizard tower is crumbling. It is up to Septimus and his friends to salvage their town before it is too late.
This is an imaginative, funny and boisterous book; the sixth and last (or at least, latest) installment in the Septimus Heap series. Well-paced and exciting the whole way through - I could hardly put the book down long enough to sleep. An immensely satisfying read! Top notch fantasy, highly recommendable to anyone who's into this genre.
