by Jodi Picoult
The beginning is clunky, as many characters are introduced and the story is told from multiple perspectives. All of the individual stories and clues eventually get connected, so be patient.
Ross Wakeman, who has tried to kill himself in order to be reunited with the woman he loved, is a paranormal investigator.
Spencer Pike is dying man who sells his land to a developer. Members of the Abenaki tribe protest the development of their sacred burial ground. After several spooky incidents, the developer hires Ross to find out if supernatural forces are at work.
Picoult has added a little something for everyone in this amazing novel--am exciting murder mystery, historical fiction centered on the eugenics project in Vermont that inspired the Nazis, all mixed up with supernatural spookiness and love.
