Another fun sci-fi YA novel from Marie Lu! I felt it was a bit slow in the middle, which slowed my reading, but it picked right back up again towards the end. Marie Lu managed to make this a thrilling sci-fi adventure, but with very real elements of what it may be like for refugees/immigrants coming to a new country and perhaps not being very welcome (which, as the daughter of immigrants, really hit home for me). Talin comes alive as the protagonist for her very relatable experiences as an refugee, and bonus points for making her a mute character that relies on sign language to communicate (as well as many of the other characters knowing sign language and being able to communicate).
