The Testaments by Margaret Atwood
4.0
I had so many questions answered!
You don’t necessarily need to read The Handmaids tale to read The Testaments. Atwood does a phenomenal job at highlighting the nuances of Gilead (without offending her readers who have read). But, without the prior knowledge, I don’t think this novel will pack the same punch.
However, despite (finally) revealing the true inner workings of Gilead, Atwood attests to so much more.
She reminds us that there is hope. She reminds us that those who seem to be working against us may actually be doing everything they can to help us. With this novel, she tied in reality, fiction, and our worst fears about our culture. But, she also tied resilience, unity, and the will to keep pushing forward.
