adomental 's review for:
A Wizard of Earthsea
by Ursula K. Le Guin
I read this book in parallel with my 10yo son. He bounced right off it, but I loved it.
It's so refreshing to read something this well written, not the boilerplate prose of other fantasy novels. The world building was great, if a little rushed.
I really enjoyed the unusual pacing, but I can see why that might put a kid off.
It's hard to explain, but it feels like I'm a kid discovering a story more than an adult reading a story that was clearly storyboarded by another adult? Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell is the only other book I've read recently that did that as well.
