I can't do it anymore. I tried. O, gentlefriends how I tried. But, I can no longer force myself to wade through pretentious and forced banter, metaphors that make no fucking sense, or gore/violence against women, etc just to prove how edgy this book is.

I tried the physical copy, the audiobook, the ebook, setting it down and trying again later. Nothing worked. Its just not the book for me. It feels very "male gaze"-y when describing female characters, the sex scenes were cringe and awkward. I like grim dark fantasy - and I don't mind gore and violence if it actually serves a purpose. But, when it just feels gratuitous, it's very off putting.

If you want a really good story about a queer female assassin, go read [b:Red Sister|25895524|Red Sister (Book of the Ancestor, #1)|Mark Lawrence|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1481038440l/25895524._SY75_.jpg|45777900] by Mark Lawrence and take a pass on this hot mess.
