Wolves of the Calla by Stephen King
4.0

Roland and his Ka-tet are following the path of the beam when they come to Calla Bryn Sturgis and are set with the task of saving one out of every pair of twins born there. (twins are the norm) About every 20 years the Wolves come into town and take one of the twins for a time. The twin, when returned, is roont. This twin won't remember anything, will be an idiot, will grow to a huge size, and die young. Also in the town, they meet Father Callahan, who will join their ka-tet for a while. Whose path has crossed theirs in the past.

Good story. Was a really long book, but it didn't feel that way.
