Polysecure: Attachment, Trauma and Consensual Nonmonogamy
by Jessica Fern
I really enjoyed Fern's setup of this book: first she outlined attachment theory, then she outlined how trauma impacts attachment styles, and finally she explained how those attachment styles may show up in non-monogamous relationships. I think this is beneficial for people in any sort of relationship (especially if you have negative preconceived notions about non-monogamy). I also think that understanding healthy non-monogamy can be beneficial in understanding friendships too! I have always been in the camp that friendships are just as valuable as romantic relationships, and this book helped me deepen that belief and understand how to love and support more people. It also pushed me to think about relationships as totally unique, and there is no standard, ideal, or even 'norm.' Also, bringing together these topics of trauma, attachment, and non-monogamy is just super cool.
