The Overneath by Peter S. Beagle

5.0

This is a fantastic short story collection from SFWA's most recent Grand Master. Unicorns appear in several of the stories from a wide variety of cultures, with "the Story of Kao Yu" and "Olfert Dapper's Day" being my favorite of those. "Trinity County, CA" offers a great take on what life in CA's great north might be if dragons were an illicit product for breeding. But my fave story in the book was "Great-Grandmother in the Cellar," as I just might like a super-powered and questionably moral ancestor available if a pesky magician pops up. Guess I should finally read the Last Unicorn after all...
