This is the first book I've read by Marshall, but I enjoyed the suspense and creepy, almost gothic atmosphere she creates. After a whirlwind romance, wealthy Connor Dalton brings his new fiancee, Theodora "Theo" Scott to meet his family at their remote winter retreat. Theo knows she's hiding things in her past from Connor, but what secrets are Dalton and his family keeping?
Many things are revealed to the reader, but only after several twists and turns to the story. Some parts at the beginning of the book move a bit slowly. However, when the pieces start coming together, the story becomes so tense and suspenseful I didn’t want to put it down. There is a substantial amount of violence and many of the characters are hard to take, but I still enjoyed the book. There are a lot of moving parts to the story, but nothing is left hanging after the book's satisfying ending.
I won an advance copy of this book from Flatiron books, but my review is voluntary and unbiased.
Graphic: Violence, Murder
Moderate: Physical abuse
