One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

4.0

The most significant moment following Shukhov's "good" day in a Soviet work camp reveals that he believes life holds no spiritual significance. While he claimed to Alyoshka the Baptist at the end of the book that he doesn't believe in heaven or hell, his actions and words leading up to this moment demonstrate otherwise. Going through hell forces us to deal with the world as it is whether or not we understand what that means.
