Adventures in Memory: The Science and Secrets of Remembering and Forgetting by Ylva Østby, Hilde Østby

3.0

The big selling point of this book is that it's written by a two sister team, one of whom is a neuroscientist and the other is a writer. I had high expectations for the quality of the prose but I'm sad to say it was rather a letdown (and no, this has nothing to do with the translation). The structure of the book is meandering, the theme transitions are sometimes rather forced, and the tone gets unnecessarily sensationalist at times. Some of the gimmicks like the pretend-talkshow script weren't as funny as I presume the authors wanted them to be. Still, it was nice to read a book that doesn't use the default US/UK point of view, and some of the connections - particularly the chapter on memories and future - were interesting and thought-provoking.
