Bridge of Clay by Markus Zusak
3.0
I wanted to love this like I love The Book Thief but it is completely different.
I found the writing quite confusing at times, almost like it had been written in a complex way on purpose. Maybe I've missed the point and it was?
I didn't feel myself attached to any of the characters at all; I didn't feel drawn to pick it back up and keep reading; I didn't enjoy the almost poetic style.
Saying that, I did like the underlying story and the hardships that are discussed through the book. Having lost my mum as a teenager, I felt I could really relate to some aspects which is why I've given it 3 stars.
If you've come to this book after The Book Thief, think of it as if someone else has written it or I think you'd be disappointed.
