Backhanded Compliments
by Katie Chandler
I remember waiting months for the release of this book, and the reason for it was very simple: it mixed two things that I love, sapphic romance and tennis. However, I was very afraid of it not meeting my expectations, so it was a great surprise when, while reading, I noticed that it even exceeded them.
It had been a few months since I read a romance book and actually liked it, so it was amazing to read this one and see myself intrigued by the Luca and Juliette’s story as characters and their romance. I found the idea of mixing realism with magic (a modern world in which most people are born with the name of their soul mates tattooed on their wrist) very different and interesting, especially its importance for the unfolding of the story and the way the characters understood their feelings for each other. They matched together and not only because they were destined from birth.
There were some things that I didn't like so much, but not to the point of disturbing the reading experience. Overall, it was a good book to read and pass the time, and definitely one that I would recommend.
