Once again, McGuire has managed to create a fascinating world within our own, only this time, instead of the Fae, we have cryptids -- monsters and non-humans (think Sasquatch) -- extra dimensions, and the potential for a dragon. (I'm a sucker for dragons.) The characters are bright and witty, and I'm almost certain Verity and Toby would be great fighting companions if those worlds ever collided. The premise is interesting, the mystery sucks you in, and McGuire pulls no punches with action and danger.
Note: I have also been reading the short stories that give the history of the Healy-Price family. There are inside references between the two, but you don't need one to understand the other.
