The Cold Dish: A Longmire Mystery
by Craig Johnson
So disclaimer here: I’ve watched the show with my Dad first(I didn’t know it was actually books) so I’m going to give my take on both
The tv series actually does the books justice(no pun intended)! That Craig Johnson helped with that truly makes a big difference!! Of course things aren’t the same but, to me, it doesn’t take away from it at all. I think they picked an A+ Walt in Robert Taylor. I love the humor and how Walts character develops.
Henry is my absolute favorite, though in the show he didn’t seem to me as much a lady’s man or as big a man as described, I love how Lou Diamond Phillips portrays him. Henry is “not a man who speaks in contractions” and I think he’s perfect. Before my son was born we considered the name Henry... maybe if we have another boy in the future -winks-
I like how Lucian is more involved in the book(s)! Though I don’t appreciate his and Vics mouths, it takes away from the story in my opinion. I like the Vic in the show WAY better.
The disconnection between Walt and Cady was felt more keenly in the book and I like that the show kind of... fast forwards to their reconnecting.
This book/series gives you all the feels and it deals with some very tough subjects, no holding back! And I think that’s why it’s well-loved. There’s some awful things in this world... but we all need stories like this, to see Walts keep fighting for the truth and justice, for friends and even some not as friendly. Maybe we can even do that too.
All in all this is such a rich series and group of characters!
