The award for the first book of 2022 to make me cry goes to...
When I was in middle school, I remember having a lot of anxiety about growing up. I wasn't afraid of the typical adult responsibilities like bills or a job or things like that, but I felt this ever-looming fear that I would lose my creativity, my imagination, my magic completely. I have distinct memories of holding on to creative, fun, "childhood" moments like they were precious stones, about to drift away.
Fast forward to this past December when I was terrified that giving up a magical job meant I was losing my magic again.
Turns out, I was wrong BOTH times and this little graphic novel helped me realize that. Seance Tea Party is this gorgeous conversation about how we not only create our own magic but that our magic grows and changes as we do. That there is beauty in picking up nostalgic things again, beauty in creating new traditions, and beauty in finding other magical people to surround yourself with. It's the exact cup of tea (pun intended) that I needed.
Plus, the book features these adorable little whimsical creatures, which we all know I'm a sucker for.
This graphic novel feels like a warm hug of affirmation and light. I'm so thankful to @BeccaIsBooked who put this on my radar.
