This Is Why They Hate Us
by Aaron H. Aceves
I would have loved to have this book when I was in high school because wow did I get where Quique was coming from. Trying to process my queerness in high school on my own and being desperate to feel seen and understood . Being told that I was just confused when I said I liked people not the gender.
There were a lot of times I said "Quique, noooooo" but I know that if I had been a baby queer with access to the internet when I was his age, I would have been just as bad.
It did bother me how much praise Quique gave to "Call Me By Your Name", even after his teacher made very solid points about the book's problematic plot.
