A Prayer for the Crown-Shy by Becky Chambers
5.0
Similar to A Psalm for the Wild-Built, this book includes incredible natural imagery and a deep but not overbearing interest in its two main character's emotional development. In parts, this novel is also very funny while still managing to completely flip into a more serious tone whenever it is natural to do so. I am in love with the utopian society of the Monk & Robot series; simultaneously, I love that just because humanity has given back to nature in this universe that individual humans can still have problems emotionally or struggle with their purpose. Mosscap is a delight in this second installment and Sibling Dex is the perfect companion- both characters get equal enough attention that the novel doesn't feel particularly Mosscap or Dex-centric. The first book may have been a great start to the series, but A Prayer for the Crown-Shy expands upon its world and establishes the series' tone and themes beautifully.
