I don't quite know what to do with myself now that I have finished RotE. I can't remember the last time a series had such an immense emotional impact on me and the characters of this story will stay with me forever. This last book (and the last trilogy in general) felt like coming home - returning to old characters, places and plotlines and getting to say goodbye. Hobb didn't spare any of them though and this was the second time a book of hers made me actually sob.
That fake out death felt so similar to Nighteye's actual death
I raced through this and there was nothing I wanted to do more than pick this book up again. I enjoyed every second of it, though I have some nitpicking about the ending.
I see how this was a convenient way to actually have an endpoint and having Fitz, Beloved and Nighteyes merge and live on in a way felt right. I just wish we would have gotten that merging and saying goodbye from Fitz's perspective, or a last view into their reunion in some way. Especially with how miserable Fitz's death was - I just wanted a moment of peace for these three. As much as I love Bee and her perspective - I wanted it to end with Fitz, Beloved and Nighteyes.
