Vendetta by Catherine Doyle

[3] I would say that this book is entertaining in many ways. Is this good literature? No by any stretch of the word. This book falls flat in terms of both character development and just the pacing of the story. So much of the romance between Nic and Sophie is told and not shown. Don't get me started with the clear feeling Luca supposedly has for Sophie. Our main character is given no time to really have personality or agency outside of her attraction to two brothers and her grief over her father's imprisonment. The mafiosa thing is utter ridiculousness of the Wattpad variety. Yes, the leaders of this criminal organization who you are in love with are ruthless killers but also impossibly young and handsome and would do anything to save you even tho you're kinda a rando/should logically be killed. Again, Sophie even entertaining their explanations after reading up on their crimes and seeing their violent nature was crazy but she is stoopid. Their 2nd encounter is when she sees Nic pull a knife after a fight with her friend's brother and she just buys that he didn't mean anything by that. All in all, a messy but kinda fun read. If I was devastatingly bored, I might read the 2nd and 3rd books.
