A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier by Ishmael Beah

4.0

Like most memoirs with a war as its backdrop, this was gruesome.

Unlike most memoirs with a war as its backdrop (at least the ones I’ve read), this one dedicated half of its length to the rehabilitation process. And I learned a lot from it.

Because of this book, I now have a newfound respect for all refugee workers who quite literally risk their lives everyday to help others rediscover their humanity and move on from their excruciating past.
