The start of this book was slow and painful to read for me. The main character’s actions didn’t seem to make sense. It felt like rather than a fleshed out character with r complex emotions she was a random jumble of seperate responses to greif. Still by the end of the book I felt like she didn’t make sense. I also struggled with the writing style in the beginning. It felt full of itself. This did improve, and the book ended up being worth the read in the end but it was very slow and doesn’t give much in therms of plot. If you are reading for the mystery or the adventure, don’t read this book. I gave it 2.5 stars because some of the later characters did feel more real to me, and the events made more sense, making the last two hundred or so pages enjoyable, but I couldn’t bring myself to give it 3 when I felt like in the first 150 pages there was no sense of plot and I didn’t know anything about the characters or their motivations, just that they were confused and upset.
