Spectacular book.
This follows John Perry, who, on his 75th birthday, did 2 things. He visited the grave of his late wife, and then he joined the army of the CDF. The Colonial Defense Force.
Once humanity finally managed to travel between stars, they found out that there were other beings in the universe who were just as interested in new real estate as we were.
John doesn't know what he's signing up for, but he knows he needs to do something with his remaining time.
Scalzi is an amazing storyteller. His stories are witty, and smart and always fun. Banter among the characters is always quick and amusing (and completely full of puns), and while this story sounds whimsical, it tackles some pretty heavy, ethical topics like colonialism or genetic enhancement.
I'm eager to find out how the rest of this series plays out.
