The Other History of the DC Universe (2020-) #2 by John Ridley
5.0
"The momentousness of what it means to be the first person of colour to shatter a barrier wasn't loss on me and for better or worse it wasn't lost on Mal."
I absolutely adored this. Love Karen. Love Mal. Loved learning more about them, in universe and Ridley incorporating real life events socio-politically and in dc. Like portraying Jericho as the first Black hero who was killed before anyone knew his name - as Jericho was introduced blonde but was first pitched as a Black superhero. Through historical fiction or a retrospective we can touch on real life events and behind the scenes that can't be done the same at the time.
I love that this in it's essentialism a story of them, unlike the trope of so many superheroes - they put each other first. In the beginning, in the end, in the middle even when the rest of the world sucks.
