Yes No Maybe So by Becky Albertalli, Aisha Saeed

2.0

This book took me over THREE MONTHS to get through. I was interested in reading it because I have read and enjoyed books from both Becky Albertalli and Aisha Saeed in the past, so I decided to read it without knowing much about it and didn't want to DNF. The political aspect of this book so incredibly heavy that it dragged down and overshadowed everything else in the book. It was more of a focal point than the characters or plot and was a distraction to the things I wanted to read about more than politics. It was super weird to read a book that I felt was neither plot centered or character centered. I will admit that I am not super involved with politics, but if the goal of the book was to educate and create awareness, it mostly just was boring and info dumpy. I might have enjoyed the characters more if they had been more important, but I didn't really connect with any of them and felt that all of their problems and flaws were blown out of proportion. They could have been replaced by any other character or person with almost no impact since the characters and the romance was barely important to the story. This book being over 400 pages just added to my struggle to get through it, and I felt like almost nothing happened and the entire thing was just information building up to the last 50 pages.
