An emotional book with a female character struggling against a corrupted system. It had poetic moments where the emotions were meant to hit hard, but not to the point where it felt overly complicated and abstract.
I also enjoyed having a morally gray protagonist, a fresh breath from those overly positive books as it seemed that she was more realistic.
And the themes as well, black identity, the police system and having a female caretaker identity, were fantastically explored.
A minor gripe is the LGBTQ tag, it was barely there and I wouldn't consider it a theme of the book. Kinda superfluous.
