White Teeth by Zadie Smith

I loved this book. I put off reading it for a long time because I was underwhelmed by the Autograph Man, but picked it up at a holiday house after running out of options (veterinary anatomy, anyone?). I was hooked right from the beginning. Every time someone asked what it was about, I had a different answer to give, it is such a diverse story and covers so much ground. I can see why people may not like it if they prefer direct plot development, this felt more like an exploratory journey with no real goal in mind, just the joy of the journey itself. It tied up a bit too neatly at the end to be really lifelike, but you've got to have some artistic licence!
