Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte McConaghy
5.0
Oh man. I don't have a clue how to sum up this story and just how hooked I was on it. I saw it as a @bookofthemonth choice for March and decided to pick it since I'd seen it on Bookstagram.
As the caretaker of Shearwater, a small island between Antarctica and Australia, Dominic Salt is the protector of the island, handyman, and keeper of the world's seed vault. But climate change is coming and with it, rising sea levels and vicious storms. Dominic lives there with his three children. They're the only ones left after researchers have gone. But when a woman washes up on the shore, the family of four works to heal her, simultaneously while they're suspicious of her and whatever motive she may have. Nobody is telling the full truth, Rowan or Dominic. And time is running out for this island and its inhabitants.
This was beautifully atmospheric. I could see Shearwater in my head and feel the moodiness of the sea and the harsh weather. I had a moment of luck and predicted at least one of the twists that I knew was coming, but that didn't detract from this at all. Highly recommend!
