Diary of a Young Naturalist by Dara McAnulty

4.0

If you love lyrical descriptions of flora and fauna spiced up with a bit of autism, this is the book for you! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this diary one story at a time, often a bit more, to completely immerse myself in Dara McAnulty's writing. It is difficult to picture a teenage boy write such beautiful prose and have such deep knowledge of nature. Yet, as I have three autistic people in my nuclear family, it all felt very familiar: his passions, his talents and his struggles.
This book reminded me to stop and notice, enjoy nature, enjoy the small things.
The map and glossary were helpful.
