Lady of Shadows by Melissa K. Roehrich
4.0

This book is brilliant, a lot of it is a bit filler-y moving time in order to get to the action at the end, and carry the story along but actually it works. I appreciated that Scarlett struggled with controlling her magic at first, I like that it takes her a while to get the hang of things and she's not just boom, have magic, suddenly awesome.
I get how some people could draw similarities with ACOTAR, fated mates, a bit of a Hades/Persephone trope, but I think this book stands up well on it's own and people need to stop comparing every single fantasy series to SJM.
Callan did get on my nerves a bit in this book, but I'm writing this review after finishing the series and I feel like I understand his actions better now, and he has redeemed himself through his development.
There isn't a lot of action in this one, but a lot happens which moves the story along, and in the later books you see the effects of that so do not judge this series on this one book alone, bigger things are coming. (and anyone you hate now you might love in two books time, just hang in there!)
