Bless Your Heart
by Lindy Ryan
Grabbed this book from the library based on the cover art and title. Bless Your Heart is the story of four generations of women running a funeral parlor and guarding the secret that sometimes their dead clientele don’t stay dead. The “strigoi” that rise from the dead are more zombie than vampire, and I enjoyed the slow burn reveals of how the Evans family deals with them. Very good world building. But the book had way too many POV characters. I felt like you could skip some chapters entirely without missing a thing. The book was at its best when written from the POV of any of the four Evans women, but especially the 15 year old daughter Luna who is just starting to learn about the family business and the part that she plays in it. I think the book would’ve been better if told entirely from Luna’s perspective. This is the first book of what will be a series, so I’m interested in reading more about this world, and hopeful that the storytelling will improve on its flaws.
