I stumbled upon this book on KU, and it was just a really good little mermaid retelling that had lots of spice. I thought the writing was good. I liked the fantasy elements and the plot (firstly that there was a plot and that it wasn't just all spice), and I liked the differences the author added between the original story and this version, like the Sea Witch, but much more.
The world building was detailed and I liked that the author raised things like the differences in hair texture in and out of the water and how Averil (Ariel) had trouble sleeping in a bed on the surface given the lack of motion/movement. For me, those sorts of things were just that extra level of detail that I thought was surprisingly unexpected and definitely improved the story. What a magical fun read.
