Multitudes by Lucy Caldwell

4.0

I stumbled across the writing of Lucy Caldwell in an edition of Granta. I really loved her style so decided to read this collection. This was an incredibly eclectic mix of short stories that were all beautifully written and quickly engaging. For me the outstanding and memorable stories were Thirteen, Poison, Killing Time, Through the Wardrobe and Here We Are

Memorable Quotes
Escape Routes
"You think of the pictures on his wardrobe, and you think that the whole year of Zork was a training in the secret messages people are trying to tell you, that are there to be read, if only you know how. And you know then, you just know, that he’s never coming back."

Killing Time
"We should listen to the news with our eyes closed, she said, so that we could hear more clearly."

Here We Are
"There are times in your life, or maybe just the one time, when you find yourself in the right place, the only place you could possibly be, and with the only person."

"All love stories are the same story: the moment that, that moment when, the moment we."
