The Duke and I by Julia Quinn

3.0

I put watching the Bridgerton Netflix series on hold to read this first cause this has long been in my never ending list of TBR.

I love historical romances. The introduction of the Bridgerton family was impressive. There's so much to like in this novel---the dialogues & friendships of the characters, Whistledowns gossip papers, ballrooms full of ambitious Mamas, the nightmare of every eligible bachelor and miss and so many others. Furthermore, the chemistry of Simon & Daphne is insane since the beginning. This was a perfectly good romance up until the scene I particularly didn't like. It made me uncomfortable. We don't need to reverse the roles in order to understand the gravity of the situation. Rape is rape when 'it' is forced. This story could've been perfect without that scene. That's the only flaw I got in this book cause no matter what the situation is Daphne shouldn't force her husband to impregnate her. But thank the heavens cause it's 2021!

Idk how to rate this. I want to be happy with the ending but it feels like I'm trampling on my morality. Idk what to feeeeeeel!!!!

But I'm still going to read the whole Bridgerton series cause how Julia Quinn writes is to my liking.
