Circe by Madeline Miller

We bear it as best we can.

Perfectly describes how I felt reading the book. The earlier chapters were so compelling I was excited for what was to come. It never did. Nothing ever did come. This book feels like a biography/ memoir of sorts written very much like tumblr in 2014-2016.

It's not at all bad but it could've been better. I was made to believe that Circe would grow into her powers and become someone extraordinary but she failed everytime. There were several moments throughout the book where it felt like she was at the cusp of doing something groundbreaking yet every single time it was anticlimactic. She would talk about the unknown limits to her powers yet what was shown never lived up to the talk of it.

Not a complete waste of time but definitely not astounding.
