Perfect
by Ellen Hopkins
First problem I didn’t love about this book was the formatting. I believe it was trying to be a book in poem format. But I am just not keen on poems anyways so it is just not my cup of tea.
Secondly the plot of this book was a good idea of people trying to be perfect, but they are really just covering up something bigger; however that doesn’t make the book any better for me because the book is all so sad with nothing good happening. There are four main characters: sean, cara, Kendra, and Andre. The characters somehow all connect. But really their stories are so depressing. One has an eating disorder. One is on roids. One is keeping their dream of dancing a secret. While another is keeping their love hidden. Really what the problem was is that it was sad from the beginning to the end.
Thirdly the book was depressing, but some of the scenes were disturbing. Not really what I was expecting. Like one of the characters doing the nasty to himself. Or perhaps a model “agent” taking advantage of a character. I know life isn’t happy, but I thought these scenes would be as vivid and depressing.
Anyways, I wouldn’t recommend this book. I thought it was too intense and depressing.
